Zachary Levi blames ‘incredibly poor’ leadership for LA wildfires

Actor and former Los Angeles resident Zechariah Levi expressed strong criticism as California battled devastating wildfires, urging state leaders to be held accountable and describing the situation as “deeply personal” to him.

“This is the most devastating fire in the history of Los Angeles,” said a visibly shaken Levi.Jesse Watters PrimetimeWednesday evening. “My family is from Ventura, California. I grew up there most of my life, and then I lived in LA for 15 years.”

He further compared the devastating forest fires on the news to “watching a post-apocalyptic war movie.”

Levi explained why he believes California Governor Gavin NewsomLos Angeles Mayor Karen Bass and state leadership must be held accountable.

“This is just incredible mismanagement, incredible bad leadership. I would go so far as to say it’s criminally negligent, because I mean, Gavin Newsom was governor for five years or lieutenant governor for eight or nine years before that. Some of the worst fires we’ve ever had in California under that watch. He clearly knows that the biggest problem we have in California is these fires. And besides, the mudslides that follow,” Levi explained.

And that they are essentially not just doing nothing, but worse than nothing, when firefighter budgets are cut, while specifically and deliberately not doing the work that could be done to avoid these problems or to effectively address them can help when they happen.”

“There’s something almost criminally intentional here. What are they doing? I don’t know,” Levi wondered.

“I have no idea why they do or don’t do the things they do. But they must be held accountable. This is not good leadership,” he added.

The “Shazaam!” Star also criticized Gov. Gavin Newsom’s “character,” citing the infamous French washing incident during COVID-19, where Newsom was photographed dining with friends in violation of his own state’s protocols.

“I mean, listen, you know, this is the guy who in the middle of the pandemic, when people were being locked down for gathering together. He was having dinner at French Laundry with his friends. What does that say about the character of this man who did nothing to help the people of California, I don’t believe he does,” Levi said. “And so I think there has to be some kind of responsibility that doesn’t just fall on the leadership imposed on California, but also on our nation, you know?”

Levi says he considers the fire insurance to be the “most criminal” aspect of the situation.

“I don’t know if you know this, but like about 70% of Southern California policyholders who had fire insurance on their homes months ago had that insurance taken away,” Levi said. “The insurance company said, no, we’re not going to offer fire insurance anymore. What should they do in terms of flood insurance and fire insurance? This is a fire hazard. That’s of course the insurance they need and they And just a few months ago this was taken from people. As if this is not okay in any way.

He urged people to keep Southern California affected by the fires in their thoughts and prayers. “We need to send as much love, light and support as possible to everyone affected by this right now,” Levi said.
