Michail Antonio is in a stable condition after the West Ham striker was involved in a car crash on Saturday, the club have confirmed.
The Hammers had released a statement on social media earlier in the day saying “the thoughts and prayers of everyone at the Club are with Michail, his family and friends at this time”.
Images had been circulated online showing a smashed Ferrari but, in a subsequent post, the club said: “West Ham United can confirm that Michail Antonio is in a stable condition following a car accident this afternoon in the Essex area.
“Michael is conscious and communicating and is currently under close observation in a central London hospital.
“At this difficult time, we ask everyone to respect the privacy of Michael and his family.
“The Club will make no further comment this evening but will issue a further update in due course.”
