West Ham cancel press conference as Lopetegui nears exit

West Ham have canceled their press conference scheduled for this afternoon, fueling speculation that Julen Lopetegui is set to be sacked.

The Spaniard only took over at the London Stadium in May but has presided over an unremarkable start to the season with the Hammers 14th in the Premier League table.

Lopetegui was due to preview Friday’s FA Cup third round tie at Aston Villa today, but the club announced this morning that it will no longer go ahead.

Graham Potter is the favorite to take over, with reports suggesting the former Chelsea manager has held several rounds of talks with the West Ham board.

The Daily Mail claim the east London club want Potter on a short-term deal until the end of the season with the 49-year-old wanting a longer contract.

There is also the possibility that West Ham could be lured by Everton, who are considering Sean Dyche’s future following their takeover by the Friedkin Group.

Should Potter head to Merseyside, then Christophe Galtier has emerged as a possible alternative.

The former Paris Saint-Germain boss is currently the manager of Al Duhail in Qatar, but would relish the chance to move to the Premier League.
