WATCH: Ravichandran Ashwin enjoys fun time with support staff after announcing retirement from international cricket

Ravichandran Ashwin might have announced his retirement after the Gabba Test of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy, but the kind of presence the legendary off-spinner stocks in the Indian dressing room is almost a no-brainer. This can be seen through a video that BCCI shared in theirs X handle that recently revealed Ashwin’s true nature behind the scenes.

The bowling skills of the support staff are on display as Ravichandran Ashwin cheers them up

The video shows a closed net session of the Indian cricket team with members of the support staff who are currently with the team in Australia. In the video, these support staff members are seen trying their hand at bowling as Ashwin calls them into the net one by one. Young people Prasidh Krishna and Washington Sudar can also be seen in the video poking fun at the bowling actions of the support staff members. A harmless mimicry of spin and pace bowling can be seen from the support staff as some deliveries are amusingly derailed off the pitch while others fall short at the end of the strikes. Ashwin, Krishna and Sundar are seen laughing and enjoying their time watching how good the Indian support can be with the ball!

Ashwin’s retirement: A replacement void?

While the laughter and fun may be a joyous sight for Indian cricket fans, a more serious question looms before the team management. With Ashwin bidding farewell to the game after the Gabba Test, the question arises as to who can be the legendary off-spinner’s short-term replacement for the remaining Test matches of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

India may opt for an extra pacer similar to the Brisbane Test considering the movement of seam pacers at the MCG especially with the new ball. For the Sydney Test, the team can choose Washington Sudar as their main thread. The pitch in Sydney is known to be batsmen friendly, with spinners playing a crucial role in the latter stages of the match. Ravindra Jadeja he can provide the extra help with both bat and ball, similar to Ashwin.
