A University of Georgia student was seriously injured Wednesday morning in an apparent terrorist attack in New Orleans that killed at least 10 people and injured dozens of others, the school confirmed in a statement on social media.
The student, who has not yet been identified, was “seriously injured” when a driver plowed through a crowd in a pick-up truck on Bourbon Street just after 3am local time on New Year’s Day.

The suspect has been identified by police as 42-year-old Shamsud-Din Jabbar, who was pronounced dead at the scene after exchanging gunfire with local police. The FBI is working to determine “the subject’s potential associations and ties with terrorist organizations” after an ISIS flag was found in the truck. Weapons and a possible IED were located in the suspect’s vehicle, and other potential IEDs were also located in the French Quarter.
The FBI said Wednesday that it does not believe Jabbar is “singlely responsible” for the terrorist act.
