
Drummer for U2 Larry Mullen Jr has praised his family over the years.
“I’m rubbish at being a rock star,” Mullen Jr. said in 2013, according to Irish Daily Mail. “I’m one of the worst rock stars I know. I love being at home with my kids. There are no drugs. Not even much rock and roll going on.
Mullen Jr co-founder of U2 with Bono, The edge and Adam Clayton when they were at school in Dublin. In December 2024 Mullen Jr. opened up about his battle with dyscalculia, which makes it difficult for him to count the bars of music.
“I always knew there was something wrong with the way I handled numbers. I have numerical challenges,” Mullen told the Sunday Times Radio. “I recently found out that I have dyscalculia, which is a variant of dyslexia. So I can’t count, I can’t add.”
Mullen Jr – who shares three children with a partner Anne Acheson — plans to address her dyscalculia journey in the near future Left behind documentary film.
“I took the documentary to my son, who has dyslexia, and he watched it with me,” Mullen said. Deadline. “I could see how he was reacting to it and I just got an idea of his intensity and how he felt. I just took the idea literally and went into the studio and recorded what I thought he was feeling right now.”
Mullen Jr. would not share which son struggles with learning disabilities. “Oh, he laughs at me and says, ‘Oh, you think you understand how I feel,'” he recalled. “And I’m like, ‘Well, I can imagine what it feels like.’ I was inspired by him and from there the idea of music was born.”
