President-elect Donald Trump told NBC News’ “Meet the Press” on Sunday that his inaugural address would focus on unity, making his message known to Americans who did not support him on Election Day.

“I’m going to treat you as well as I treated the biggest MAGA supporters,” Trump said, responding to a question about what he wanted to tell the people who didn’t vote for him.

Trump joined NBC News’ Kristen Welker on Sunday for his first major interview since winning the presidential election. Trump previously aligned himself with Welker for an interview in September 2023 and was the NBC host’s first guest after taking over for longtime host Chuck Todd.

“These people are so committed to making America great again, it’s simple. And I’m going to treat them the same way I treat MAGA. We will treat everyone well. We want success for our country, we want security for our country,” the president-elect added.

Trump emphasized reducing crime and said the US was “threatened.” The president-elect also said he wanted to improve the country’s reputation.

“I want to treat everyone the same. I want to treat them well,” Trump added.

“But we have to catch the criminals of our country. We have to reduce crime. People should be able to walk down the street and buy a loaf of bread without being shot. And that’s going to happen. But what I say to them They are: I love you, and we’re all going to work together. And we’re going to bring it together. And you know what it’s going to bring together?

Trump also told Welker that his inaugural address would focus on a message of unity.

“It’s going to be a message of unity, and I think success brings unity. And I experienced that. I experienced it in my first term, as I said. We’re going to talk about unity. and we’re going to talk about success. Making our country safe. Keeping out people who shouldn’t be in our country, that’s what we have to do. I know it doesn’t sound nice, but we have to do that. In short, it’s about taking our country together,” Trump said as he previewed his speech.

Trump met after his victory with MSNBC hosts Mika Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough, some of his biggest critics in the media. He recently spoke to Fox News Digital about his second term.

“To make America great again it is very important, if not essential, to have a free, fair one and open media or press,” Trump said.

“I received a call from Joe Scarborough requesting a meeting for him and Mika, and I agreed that it would be a good thing if such a meeting took place,” Trump said. “We met at Mar-a-Lago at 8 a.m. Friday morning.”

Trump called the meeting “extremely cordial.”

“A lot of things were discussed and I really appreciated that they wanted to have open communication,” he said. “In many ways it’s a shame it wasn’t done a long time ago.”
