President-elect Donald Trump said there are more important issues at stake than the transgender bathroom debate when pressed on the topic for his Time Person of the Year profile.
‘I don’t want to comment on the bathroom issue’ Trump said. “Because it’s a very small number of people, and our country is torn apart, they’re going to have to settle whatever the law agrees on. I’m a big believer in the Supreme Court, and I’m going to follow their rulings, and so far I think their rulings are rulings that people agree with, but we’re talking about a very small number of people, and we’re talking about it , and it gets enormous attention, and it doesn’t get a lot of people.”
Trump was asked if he agreed with being transgender Representative Sarah McBride, D-Del., who said they needed to focus on more important issues than the transgender bathroom debate led by Rep. Nancy Mace, R-S.C., that has been raging in Washington for the past month.
“I agree with that. On that note – absolutely. Like I said, it’s a small number of people,” Trump said.

Trump was specifically asked about an election campaign in which his team focused on the message: “Trump is for us and (Kamala) Harris is for them/them.” The ad was generally seen as effective by making his opponent appear outside the mainstream.
“Well, it’s true, Trump is for us,” Trump replied. “I mean, Trump is definitely for us, okay? And we make up the vast majority of people in this country. And I also want all people to be treated fairly. You know, forget the majority or not forget the majority. People should be treated well and fairly.”
Trump also took aim at Harris’ media strategy during the Time interview, suggesting she should have done more interviews. Harris avoided formal interviews early in the campaign and stepped up her media appearances in the final weeks.
“I think they made a big tactical mistake by literally not talking to the press, even though it was a very friendly one, I mean, and they almost all had a friendly one, someone would come up with a very friendly one – like you guys might – but a friendly interview, and they rejected everyone,” he said. “They didn’t want to do the basics. And people, including myself, started saying, is there something wrong with her? What’s wrong? Why not do some basic interviewing?”
