Tottenham boss Postecoglou hasn’t lost ‘faith or determination’ despite fans’ anger at Everton defeat

Ange Postecoglou says his belief he can turn Tottenham’s season around has not given up despite a sixth defeat in eight league games this afternoon.

Spurs were beaten 3-2 at Everton with a late second-half comeback giving the score an element of respectability after a largely uninspired display at Goodison Park.

The relegation-threatened hosts led 3-0 at half-time after tries from Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Iliman Ndiaye before Archie Gray’s own goal.

Spurs improved after the break but could not find an equalizer after goals from Dejan Kulusevski and substitute Richarlison.

The away fans unleashed their fury on Postecoglou and the players after the final whistle, but the Australian insisted he will continue to work hard to find solutions.

Asked if his faith was beginning to wane, he told Sky Sports: “No, it’s not. If you look at the situation we’re in, it will eventually dissipate. I certainly hope and believe it will. We will give ourselves the opportunity to be consistent in performance and results.

“I certainly haven’t lost faith or determination to turn it around and the players showed in the second half that they haven’t.”

We struggled in the first half – Angers

Injury-hit Spurs are 15th in the table, eight points above the relegation zone.

Postecoglou added: “It’s a difficult result. We struggled to really get into the game in the first half and that gave Everton a boost. We gave ourselves a mountain to climb but the players certainly tried to get the game back but we just kept falling back.

“We couldn’t really take control of the game. We struggled to get any traction with and without the ball and that allowed them to get in behind us. We had some chances that we probably should have capitalized on early on, but in the end it wasn’t enough.

“We are quite stretched. We literally had 11 players fit to start the game. We didn’t have complete control of our organization and Everton took advantage of that and we paid the price for it. Radu (Dragusin) had to leave due to deep cut and restructuring.

“In the second half we had our fair share of play. We started strongly and I thought Richarlison made the difference and a presence and Mikey Moore gave us something on the left.”

Tottenham want to make moves in January

The transfer window is open and Spurs are working hard to strengthen their squad.

“There will be urgency, but I don’t need to say it, everyone can see it,” Postecoglou said. “I have no problem with how the club is doing, they are working hard and trying to find solutions. These players need help that’s for sure and hopefully within the next 10 days or so we will have a solution. It’s really hard, we’re not the only ones in the market. The club is trying hard.”
