These are the countries where workers are most likely to use generative artificial intelligence – and the US is lagging behind the leaders


Generative AI may not be coming for your business, but it is definitely coming for your business. Worldwide, 75% of knowledge workers now use gen AI in their work, according to a recent Microsoft/LinkedIn poll. Employees, not companies, often lead the way: In most countries, but especially in China and the US, many workers regularly use gen-AI tools even though their employer does not provide them. Notably, while the US is home to the world’s dominant platforms, including OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Meta’s Llama, it lags behind middle-income countries like India, Indonesia and Brazil in gen-AI adoption – a sign that younger tech-savvy workers could help emerging market economies overcome the global digital divide.
