During the The masked singerIn the season 12 finale, the Buffalos—now known as Boyz II Men—went where no group had gone before, becoming the first group to win the Golden Mask trophy, but they didn’t initially have victory on their minds.
“For the umpteenth time they called us… and we decided we’d do it,” Vanya Morris exclusively speaking Us Weekly before the final on Wednesday 18 December. “Because they called us several times and we couldn’t do it. So this last time we were like, “Okay, let’s just get it over with so they never call us again.”
Wanyá, 51, and his bandmates, Nathan Morris (no relation) and Sean Stockmanthey thought being on the show would be a “good performance”, but they didn’t imagine they could take home the top honour. The masked singer has a history of eliminating major recording artists during the season premieres, and the boys thought this might be their destiny.
“(We thought), ‘We’re probably not going to win because they’re going to.’ we know who we are. We’ll either be known or if we mask our voices, we know they won’t like who we are and they’ll kick us out,” Wanya recalled, before Nathan, 53, chimed in: “We were hoping to get kicked out on the first night to we can go back home!’
Once they started filming, however, they changed their tune. “Once we got there and saw the energy and felt the whole atmosphere, we were just like, ‘Look, man, if we’re here, we might as well stay,'” Wanya said us. “And he won. And then go away!”
Sean, 52, admitted the trio “didn’t expect much from the experience” but soon “really got into it” playing Buffalo.

So it was nice and it got deeper than just winning everything.”
The boys even choked on stage during the final, which Wanyá attributed to the unusual circumstances of the competition at The masked singer as well as the realization that filming the show brought them closer together.
“What made us more emotional than anything else was the fact that we had overcome a situation that most people would bow out of. It was really hot in those suits and we didn’t know if we were going to be able to pull off performances like (the finale) from the start,” he explained. “It felt like we were a new band to me. And they took us as good singers, as good performers, and we weren’t even real people. … We were all Buffalo, you know what I mean? Although we are individual, we all embody the same character and have overcome every obstacle, dehydration, overcome anxiety. We overcame everything and sang our hearts out for the people.”
Sean agreed, adding, “It just made us realize that we still have the energy that we’ve always had (from) 33 years ago. Sometimes, in any relationship, you tend to take the dynamic you’re built on for granted, and that made us refocus. It made us remember why we did this in the first place.”
Boyz II Men have no plans to slow down in the new year, with tour dates booked through July.
“A lot of people use the word ‘fit’ in their own way, and we feel like we’re a good fit for each other, and that’s more important to us than anything else,” Nathan said. “And as long as we keep in touch with each other, we’ll be able to join in with what everyone else is doing. And we have a lot to come.
I don’t commonly comment but I gotta tell thanks for the post on this perfect one : D.
