Dani Olmo and Pau Victor have been granted provisional registrations by the Spanish government despite repeated rejections by the Spanish FA and La Liga in recent weeks.
Spain’s Sports Council, the Consejo Superior de Deportes (CSD), ruled on Wednesday that the two players should be made available for selection pending a final decision on the case.
Olmo and Victor were both deregistered from La Liga on December 31 after Barcelona missed a deadline to prove they were complying with the league’s financial fair play rules.
The club’s attempts to re-register the players were rejected by the Spanish FA (RFEF) and La Liga, prompting the Catalan club to submit a 52-page appeal and more than 60 supporting documents to the CSD, Spain’s highest sports council. government.
Olmo had a clause in his contract that would have allowed him to leave on a free transfer if he did not sign up, but both he and Viktor remained committed to staying at the club.

La Liga rules state that a player cannot be registered twice in the same season, however, Wednesday’s decision means the pair can – for now at least – feature again for Barcelona in all competitions this season.
In a statement, the CSD approved Barcelona’s “urgent precautionary measure requested by FC Barcelona and players Dani Olmo and Pau Victor.
“This measure, which is provisional until the appeal of the club and the aforementioned footballers is finally resolved, suspends the Agreement of the Monitoring Committee of the RFEF-LaLiga Coordination Agreement, dated January 4, 2025, and the cancellation of sports licenses. of the aforementioned players”.
The news came shortly before Barcelona’s Spanish Super Cup semi-final against Athletic Club, but none of the players have been named in the squad for tonight’s game.
Coach Hansi Flick said before the game: “I’m very happy with it (the decision). I think the whole team, Dani and Pau of course, are more than happy. And also everyone in the club.
“It’s the right decision.”

Barcelona sporting director Deco echoed Flick’s sentiment: “I’m happy for the players. We have had very difficult days and the players want to play.
“But we’re so happy with the result and that CSD proved us right, which is the important thing.”
However, Jon Uriarte, chairman of Barcelona’s semi-final opponents Athletic Club, said of the result that “we are seeing things that are ridiculous”, adding, “cases like this do Spanish football no favours”.
