However, there is a lot of interest in Lindelof, with suitors including Newcastle, West Ham and Everton trying to keep him in the Premier League.

The Magpies and the Hammers will be well aware of Lindelof’s qualities after making a total of 267 appearances for United in recent years, so it makes sense as a tried and experienced option that he would give both of those teams more depth.

The 30-year-old also has fans in Italy, where AC Milan, Inter Milan, Juventus, Lazio and Fiorentina are monitoring his situation.

It will be interesting to see what Lindelof decides, but MUFC fans probably won’t be too concerned about losing someone who is now clearly a back-up player.
