Teofimo Lopez took advantage of the spotlight on Saturday’s ESPN cards to call out Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis, Gervonta Davis and Terence Crawford, in that order. Lopez (21-1, 13 KOs) is desperate for a big fight after being ignored in his recent attempts to entice Devin Haney to fight him.
Lopez wants Ennis
If Teofimo is serious about fighting Ennis, he should be at middleweight because he is too big to go down to 140.
In the interview, Lopez said he deserves a bigger cut for the guys he calls because he’s the “king of the division.” He’s not going to get any of these guys with his attitude, and he’ll probably have to keep fighting the same dark opposition he’s been for the past few years.
Interestingly, Teofimo, 27, wants to fight Ennis because, in the past, he felt he brought nothing to the table. Does his recent bad performance against Karen Chukhadzhian have anything to do with Teo’s sudden interest?
“I need a man who will fight. If you say you’re the best, fight the best,” Teofimo Lopez told Top Rank Boxing, saying he wants to get back in the ring against a good opponent. “Jaron Ennis ‘Boots,’ Gervonta Davis and we’re done with Terence Crawford,” Teofimo said when asked to name who he wants to fight.
Gervonta isn’t going to waste time fighting Teofimo because he has plenty of other fighters at 135 that he can take on. Crawford does not take Teo seriously and will not engage.
When ESPN’s Mark Kriegel asked Teofimo who he wanted to fight, he dropped the boots, Tank and Crawford. This is not the first time Teofimo has called out big names and the only one he has introduced was Vasily Lomachenko. The rest of the children that Teofimo has competed with were younger.
