Teen found guilty of beating disabled DC man Reggie Brown to death, sentenced to 7 years


One of five girls aged 12 to 15 involved in the death of disabled Reggie Brown, 64, from Washington, DCwill be behind bars until she’s 21, reports say.

The 13-year-old was sentenced Wednesday to approximately seven years in prison FOX 5 DC. She apologized in court before being sentenced, the local TV station said.

“It saddens me that these young girls could be so brazen and do something so serious,” Malda Brown, one of the victim’s sisters, said in court during the sentencing. “I’m just grateful that the judge gave them the time that DC promised up to 21 years, so we’re grateful for that. It will make my mother feel much better when we get home to let her know that it did last. place.”

“DYRS lets these kids go out with no consequences, in and out of the door, get a slap on the wrist and come back out and do the same thing. Commit more violent crimes? I mean, it’s sad that our kids have to be locked up, but it’s also sad that the danger they pose to the community – what they do to people and the things they do to people,” said another of Brown’s sisters, Nasia Israel, according to FOX 5. “My brother doesn’t have that deserved. No one deserves that.”

Then in October, one of the teenage suspects testified plead guilty that she and the other suspects committed the attack because they were “bored” and looking for something to do when Brown was attacked in October 2023.

The Metropolitan Police Department said officers responded to the 6200 block of Georgia Avenue just before 1 a.m. on October 17, 2023 for a report of a man down. Upon arrival, officers found Brown suffering from trauma consistent with a seizure. He died on the spot.

The oldest suspect, a 15-year-old, was sentenced to three years in prison for assault with a dangerous weapon after pleading guilty along with two other suspects. She had testified that it was her idea to attack the man, whose family said he was frail and had battled cancer shortly before his death.

When they reached the intersection, the girl said, they encountered an unknown man who was already attacking Brown as he lay on the ground. The 15-year-old testified that she asked the man if they could help beat up Brown, and he agreed to allow it.

Then, she told the court, they began chasing Brown, who tried to flee as the man spoke to the teens.

The local CBS station in Washington, DC reported that the accuser asked the 15-year-old if she realized what they had done.

“Do you remember what you were thinking as you walked back to the alley,” prosecutor Gabrielle LoGaglio asked the teen.

“He’s dead,” she replied.
