Taco Bell, which is they are no stranger to PR tricksdebuted the Live Mas Drive-Thru Cam, a photo booth-like experience that turns driving into selfie mode. You will be transported not only with your food, but also with a digital photo that captures the moment.
It’s part of a long road to the restaurant’s first Super Bowl commercial in three years—and, assuming you give the chain your permission, your drive-thru footage could end up in that ad.
“Every day on our drive we see moments that are so uniquely ‘our fans’ – the moments, memories and energy that make Taco Bell who we are,” said Taco Bell Chief Marketing Officer Taylor Montgomery in the statement. “So for our return to football’s biggest stage, we’re eschewing the celebrities and turning the camera on the fans.”
Drive-thru cameras will appear in select locations across the US. The first was raised yesterday in Los Angeles and will remain there until tomorrow evening at 10:00 p.m. From there they will head to Middleburg Heights, Ohio; Cookeville, Tenn.; Houston, Texas and Wauchula, Fla. They will stay in each city for three days, ending the tour on December 19.
To participate in the photo shoot, you must be a Taco Bell Reward member. Drive up to the drive-thru camera, scan the QR code in the membership program app, and the camera will take half a dozen pictures of you and your crew, from the driver’s and passenger’s sides of the vehicle. Two digital strips of photos will be sent to your email.
Taco Bell is increasingly focused on the drive-thru this year. In July, the company announced plans for bring artificial intelligence on hundreds of highways throughout the country.
