Spurs join race to sign ‘unstoppable’ PL star

If you could write a week long script detailing his trials and tribulations Tottenham it would go a lot like this week.

A few days ago, Spurs beat Arne Slott’s rampant Liverpool in the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup. So the trust should have been there after a rather sticky patch on the Premier League.

There is no better game than one FA Cup A draw against non-champions Tamworth then, surely? Think again.

Remarkably, the National League team kept Anze Postecoglou’s men at bay, leading them to extra time. To put it bluntly, the top side was not good enough.

Tamworth went with the Lillywiches and deserved more than a 0-0 draw at the end of 90 minutes, even if things ended 3-0 after extra-time.

After an embarrassing spell on Sunday, it only underlines the need for new signings in the January transfer window.

Tottenham’s plans for the January transfer window

One of the names on fans’ lips right now is PSG striker Randal Kolo Muani. There have been several reports suggesting that Spurs could sign the Frenchman on loan this summer and there has been a new update from the Daily Mail’s Chris Wheeler.

This weekend he reported that “Spurs and Juventus lead the wayfor the 26-year-old this winter. This is because Manchester United’s interest in the striker has reportedly cooled.

Speaking of United, it is a Red Devil who are interested and Postecog’s side with Wheeler revealing there is interest in Marcus Rashford.

Dortmund, AC Milan, Juve and Barcelona are said to have the England international on their radar.

How does Marcus Rashford compare to Randal Kolo Muani

It is thought both players would initially be available for loan. So it becomes immediately clear who Spurs should look to pursue more heavily this month.

While Kolo Muani has scored up to 23 goals in the 2022/23 season for Eintracht Frankfurt, he hasn’t exactly set the world alight at PSG, playing just ten times and scoring twice in Ligue 1 this season.

Most importantly, he has no Premier League experience yet, which if you only bring someone in for a six-month loan, it wouldn’t be beneficial.

Rashford, on the other hand, wouldn’t need a huge adjustment period, meaning he’s probably the most sensible option if a deal can be done.

While the United forward has only found the net on seven occasions this term, which would make him Tottenham’s third top scorer alongside club captain Heung-min Son.

A look at the stats of the last two campaigns also tells us why Rashford – who he was “unstoppable” in the words of Erik ten Haag on the way to 39 goal appearances in all competitions throughout 2022/23 – would be a better buy.

Although Kolo Muani certainly looks the more creative outlet here, Rashford has a regular habit of scoring goals in English football and certainly over the last 18 months has been a more progressive carrier of the ball and a more effective carrier at it. .

A carry is considered progressive if the ball moves towards the opposition goal at least 10 yards from the starting point or is carried into the penalty area.

Of course, you can see the England international’s work rate as a cause for concern, but if Postecoglou wants something short-term then the player out of favor with United is probably the player to go here.
