South Korean lawmakers vote to impeach the president over the declaration of martial law

South Korean lawmakers voted Saturday to impeach President Yoon Suk Yeol over his short-lived declaration of martial law earlier this month.

The National Assembly adopted the motion on Saturday by 204 votes to 85.

Saturday’s vote means Yoon’s presidential powers and duties will be suspended after copies of an impeachment document were handed over to him and the Constitutional Court.
