SNL Recap: Scarlett Johansson Reacts to Colin Yost’s ‘Weekend Update’


‘Tis the season for Colin Jost and Michael Chethe annual “Weekend Update” joke swap of Saturday Night Live — and this time Jost’s wife, Scarlett Johanssonwas front and center in the audience.

During the Saturday, Dec. 21, episode, Jost, 42, asked, “Why?” when she saw a photo of Johansson, 40, flash on the screen.

“I want to dedicate this next joke to my boo, Scarlett Johansson,” Jost said with a laugh.

The camera then cut to the actress backstage shaking her head while holding a glass of water.

Che, 41, then indicated that “there was a little bit more” to the joke.

“No, no, I’m just playing. We just had a kid together and you haven’t seen pictures of him yet because he’s black as hell,” Yost read aloud. “S…, I’m not afraid of you, mobster.”

Johansson, who shares 3-year-old son Cosmo with Yost, then took a sip of his drink and added, “Oh, uh…”

Jost and Che keep up with theirs annual holiday tradition throughout their joint tenure of SNL. During the last episode of the year, they secretly write jokes about each other. The two comedians only understand what the other has written on air, which often causes Johansson to “panic”.

“Now I rarely watch (SNL) without feeling like … not overwhelming panic, just like a little overwhelming panic, because I just feel like at any moment something is going to fall apart,” Johansson said during an appearance in July 2021. c The Kelly Clarkson Show. “And that’s the excitement of SNL and for all audiences, right? Because it’s absolutely live.”

Colin Yost and Michael Che’s annual “joke swap” segment on Saturday Night Live may be a tradition, but Yost’s wife Scarlett Johansson wants no part of it. Jost and Johansson originally met when she hosted an episode of SNL, later married in 2020 On Saturday, she also appeared at a cold open until ccelebrate the lead Martin Short.
