State Secretary Marco Rubio defended President Donald TrumpThe air strikes on Houthi rebels in Yemen, with the argument that the US is “favoring the world” by focusing on the militant group.
“We are doing the whole world a favor by losing these boys and their ability to make global shipping. That is the mission here, and it will continue until it is performed,” said Rubio during a appearance on CBS ‘Face the Nation’ on Sunday.
The comments come after Trump announced on social media on Saturday that he had ordered “decisive and powerful” air strikes against Houthi rebels in Yemenclaim that that terrorist group “has conducted a non -repellent campaign of piracy, violence and terrorism against American and other ships, planes and drones.”

“It is more than a year since a commercial ship in the US sailed safely through the Suez Canal, the Red Sea or the Gulf of Aden,” Trump said in the post. “The last American warship that went through the Red Sea four months ago was attacked by the Houthis during a dozen … These non -repellent attacks cost the US and the world economy many billions of dollars, while at the same time endangering innocent life.”
“For all Houthi terrorists you have time to stop and your attacks, starting today. If they don’t, hell will rain on you like nothing you’ve ever seen before!”
The strikes come in response to the continuous disturbance of the transit of the Houthis in the Red Sea, something that Rubio said would end on Sunday with the strikes.

“This is not a message,” said Rubio. “This is an attempt to refuse them to continue to limit and control shipping.”
Rubio noted that the militant group, which is supported By IranLast year had “struck or attacked 174 naval vessels of the United States”, a period that also launched the group of 145 attacks on commercial shipping vessels.
“So we actually have a group of pirates, you know, with guided precision anti-ship weapons and demanding a toll system in one of the most important shipping jobs in the world,” said Rubio. “That’s just not sustainable.”

The State Secretary said the strikes would continue until the Houthis “no longer have the option” to carry out such attacks.
“We will not let people hang around with the rockets attacking the American navy,” said Rubio. “It’s not going to happen. Not under President Trump.”
