Former Indian National Cricket Team Champion Akash Chopra attacked the batsmen including Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma after they failed in the Adelaide Test match against the Australian National Cricket Team.
Aakash Chopra reckoned that batting failure was the main reason behind India’s national cricket team’s humiliating 10-wicket defeat in the second Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25.

The Indian batters failed miserably in the Adelaide Test
The away team’s batting looked miserable in the pink-ball Test match against Australia. In the first innings, the Rohit Sharma-led side were bowled out for 180 runs in 44.1 overs.
Nitish Kumar Reddy he top scored for the team with 42 runs under his belt while KL Rahul and Shubman Gill chipped in with 37 and 31 runs, respectively.
In the second innings, the Indian batsmen performed even worse and the team was bowled out for 175 runs, setting a target of 19 runs for the hosts.
Nitish Kumar Reddy once again top scored for the team with 42 runs in his bag while Rishabh pants and Shubman Gill contributed 28 runs each.
The truth is, it was a failure, not once but twice – Aakash Chopra
Speaking in a video shared on his official YouTube channel after the Indian team lost the Adelaide Test by 10 wickets, Aakash Chopra slammed the batsmen for not being able to play even 50 balls in the second innings. He clarified:
“Where did we go wrong? It’s a big question. The truth is, it was a failure, not once but twice. The decision to bat first was absolutely correct. In the first innings, when you got out for 180, you could tell it was happening, but by the second inning, the pitch had become flat.
“There was definitely some help in the first innings. If you’re not going to get 80 overs in two innings in a Test match, that’s the problem. There’s not a single person in the team who said they would play 80-100. Not a single player did 50 balls, but nobody played 50 balls.
In the end, the weaknesses of Indian batting were exposed once again – Aakash Chopra
Aakash Chopra further said that the inability of the batters to play longer innings cost Team India the match. He added that the team’s “weaknesses” were exposed once again by the Australian bowlers and things looked bleak for India.
“In the end, the frailties of the Indian batting were exposed once again. When wickets fall with the new ball, Virat Kohli is at No. 4, you expect a lot from Rishabh Pant, but he hasn’t played a big knock so far this one seriesand Rohit Sharma at no. 6, doesn’t look good. Our batting has let us down. That is one big reason for India’s defeat in Adelaide,” said Aakash Chopra.
