After being arrested in February for driving, a judge in Cranston, Rhode Islandordered a democratic state legislator to install a Breathalyzer in his vehicle to keep driving.
Rep. Enrique Sanchez, a progressive Democrat that serves in the Rhode Island House of Representatives, was persuaded in the early morning hours of 3 February after reporting parking at an intersection.
Bodycam images of the traffic stop that led to his arrest shows Sanchez that offers the police officer a Red Debit card instead of his driver’s license before telling her that he should have not been drinking anything.

The images shows Sanchez who repeatedly put his hands in his pockets, despite repeated orders from a police officer to remove his hands from his pockets.
“How much do you drink?” One of the other officers on the spot asked Sanchez. “You make a drink, just be honest. You smell like alcohol.”
When an officer Sanchez asked if he would do a field, he asked if he could order a Uber or he refused. An officer told him that he could not order Uber, and he refused to take a field of aber test on the spot.
In a first appearance of the court on the day of his arrest, Sanchez did not argue under the influence, and has not yet guilty of lesser civil accusations of refusing a chemical test and not obeying traffic control devices.

Court reports show that on 19 February the Sanchez permit was suspended by Cranston Magistrate William Noonan. However, he received a license for hardships that enables him to drive to and from his daily job and the State House to perform his legislative tasks between the hours of 8 hours and 8 p.m. on condition that he installs an inflammatory locking breathing in his vehicle.
In a short pre-trial conference on 24 February, the case was moved from the court to the Supreme Court of the State.
Sanchez’s arrest has attracted his resignation. On February 10, after a week of silence, he spoke to the arrest in an X -Thread.
In the thread he noticed that he was grateful to his voters for their patience and explained his passion for his work and the people of the state of Rhode Island.

He did not apologize and said instead: “I will not let my personal actions distract from the issues that really matter – the families, companies and worries about my community.”
“Sometimes we are too close to something to see our place completely,” he said. “This experience has given me a renewed clarity about my responsibilities – not only in this room, but in the confidence that my community has placed in me. I take that confidence seriously and will continue to work hard every day of my life.”
Sanchez’s lawyer is former Rhode Island House Speaker John Harwood.
