As more protective of food service Settings embrace the Make America Agany Remory Remement Today, more restaurants also seem to answer the call through promising seed oil -free food experiences.

But although many restaurants can claim to be free of seed oil, there has not really been a way to officially insure customers of it – so far.

The Seed Oil Free Alliance was founded in 2023 “to increase consciousness, improve transparency and to inform consumers about the prevalence of seed oil in Our food Delivery, “according to the website of the group.

Co-founders Corey Nelson and Jonathan Rubin discovered that “there was no certification to verify that foods are actually seed oil-free,” Nelson told Fox News Digital.

They “quickly realized that there was a chance to help consumers here, but also to help companies – because it is more expensive to eliminate seed oil from most foods.”

The Seed Oil Free Alliance, based in Florida, is an independent certification organization with a coalition of public health and Nutrition experts As advisers.

“Every legitimate certification agency does have certification standards,” said Nelson.

They range from pre-certification tests to “surveillance after certification where we can actually test food once they are on the shelf,” he said, “to ensure that companies do what they say they do and that consumers can trust the seal.”

“We give them the choice,” Nelson told Fox News Digital.

“You know, you can walk away, don’t hurt, if it’s not the right time to make the switch. Often companies switch, so then we have this opportunity to help them meet our standards.”

‘Not just the oil we used’

Erin Leeds, who owns the Garden Butcher in Boca Raton, Florida, said Her restaurant Was on the right track last year to be the first restaurant that received the certification – that is, until the avocado oil she used did not pass the rigorous laboratory tests.

“The tests indicated that (it was) not only the oil we used, but many other avocado -oils we wanted to switch to – all were somehow forgotten (s) that they have traces of sunflower oil,” Leeds told Fox News Digital.

“Where there is a will, there is a way.”

After more than six months try to find a cost -effective solution, Leeds made progress using Nelson and Rubin. She turned to algae oil from a company in California.

“We bring two pallets of algae oil every few months and use a storage facility to hold them,” said Leeds. “Where there is a will, there is a way.”

Although companies have to pay a fee to be certified, Nelson said that the price points “work very well for emerging brands such as in the packaging food industry or mother-and-doll-size restaurants.”

“I think that from the perspective of the consumer, restaurants and packaged food are just as important if you want to avoid seed oil,” said Nelson.

“But I think that from the owner’s perspective, it is simply much harder to remove all the seed oil from a restaurant as opposed to a packaged food.”

The goal, ultimately, Nelson said, “is to advocate and promote the availability of seed oil -free food options.”
