Rep. Nita Lowey dead on 87


Former Rep. Nita Lowey, DN.Y., died at the age of 87.

Lowey, who represented New York in the US House of Representatives For 32 years and was the first woman to be the chairman of the house of the house credits, died on Saturday after a long battle with metastatic breast cancer, according to a report from the New York Post.

“Nita’s family was central to her life as she was for all of us,” said the old legislator’s family in a statement. “We will be able to miss her more than words and be able to take a lot of comfort by knowing that she has lived a complete and targeted life.”

The New York legislator was born in 1937 Nita Sue Menikoff in the Bronx, later graduating from the Bronx High School of Science Before he obtained a diploma at Mount Holyoke College in 1959, the post report noted.

She married lawyer Stephen Lowey in 1961 and was first elected in the Congress in 1988 to represent the 17th congress district of New York.

An old ally of Former house speaker Nancy Pelosi and the Clinton family, Lowey became chairman of the Committee of the House Credits in 2019. She often clashed with President Donald Trump during his first term of office in her time as chairman and told Lohud in 2019 that the president was a “shame”.

“The president is a shame and as a member of the congress and as a leader of the credit committee we have the responsibility to serve people,” she said at the time.

Lowey announced her pension that same year, with Huisdemocratic leader Hakeem Jeffries, DN.Y., and told the New York Post that the old legislator was a “principle, passionate and powerful official.”

“In the course of her historical career, congress woman Lowey encouraged her voters and came up for New Yorkers while on the way they crushed several glass ceilings,” Jeffries said on Sunday, and added that Lowey was a “mentor and friend”.

Lowey is survived by her husband, three children and eight grandchildren.
