Housem leader Hakeem Jeffries, DN.Y., has noticed that he intends to attend the president Donald Trump’s Tuesday evening address for a joint session of the congress.
“Given my responsibilities in the house, I intend to attend the speech, together with other members of the Democratic Leadership, to make it clear to the nation that there is a strong opposition party that is ready, prepared and able to serve as a check and balance on the excesses of the administration,” Jeffries said in a message to colleagues.
Trump’s speech will be in his own for less than two months Second presidential term.

“The decision to attend the joint session is personal and we understand that members will come to different conclusions,” Jeffries noted.
“However, it is important to have a strong, determined and worthy democratic presence in the Chamber. The house as an institution is of the American people, and if their representatives we will not be run or bullied,” he continued.
Some democratic legislators have announced that they will skip the event.

“The state of the Union is that the President spits against the law,” claimed Senator Patty Murray, D-Wash., In a Monday post on X. “He leaves a non-chosen billionaire fire cancer researchers and destroys federal agencies such as the Social Security Administration. I will not visit the joint address of tomorrow.”

“Our focus remains on the fall of the high costs of living for everyday Americans and pushing back against the extreme right-wing extremism that Republicans have released the country,” said Jeffries. “Thank you all for your continuous leadership on behalf of the people and to defend the American way of life.”
