Remembering of old KU -Sport Omroep Bob Davis


Bob Davis, the old voice of Kansas Jayhawks Basketball and football, died, his family confirmed on Friday via the athletic department of KU. He was 80.

Davis died only a week after the death of his wife Linda of more than five decades. A cause of death was not immediately released. Kansas Basketball Head coach Bill himself remembered Davis as a ‘selfless person’.

“Bob was not only superior in his profession, but he was also a great, modest and selfless person who gave so much to himself,” said himself. “Our hearts go to the whole family, especially with his great wife Linda passed last week.”

The seventh placed Jayhawks of Self were up to this week by Arkansas in the NCAA -Tournament. Davis’ legendary broadcast in Kansas started in 1984 and lasted until his retirement in 2016. He added his voice to some of the greatest sports moments in the school.

The National Championship team from 1988 was known as “Danny and the Miracles” for his star, Danny Manning, which was led by Hall of Fame coach Larry Brown. And the national title team 20 years later, led by Self, which became known for ‘Mario’s Miracle’. Mario Chalmers bind 3-hand forced overtime against Memphis in the final.

Davis dealt with eight journeys from the Jayhawks to the last four, six bowl matches in football and thousands of football and basketball matches in the regular season. Many were spent alongside Max Falkenstien, his predecessor and later his colleague and good friend, who spent 60 years the Jayhawks for his retirement. Falkenstien died in 2019.

Former Kansas and North Carolina Coach Roy Williams described Davis as a “Giant” of the University of Kansas.

“Bob Davis was a fantastic announcer and loved Ku,” said Williams. “I was a new coach and he helped me enormously. He put the bar for everyone I worked with later. He is a KU giant.”

Davis also called the Final Final’s Four for CBS six times, and he spent 16 years calling Kansas City Royals Games on radio and television. He was elected 14 times as the Kansas Sportscaster of the Year.

Davis is survived by his son, Steven, daughter -in -law Katie and four grandchildren.
