Pepperdine University continues to be affected by the Franklin Fire Los Angeles County, California, early Tuesday morning, and a shelter-in-place order will remain in effect “until at least daylight,” the university said.
Pepperdine’s updates have been appearing on the university’s Facebook and X pages since just before 1 a.m. local time.
“The university understands that the worst of the fire has passed beyond Pepperdine,” reads the final message to take action as soon as they arise.”
The post continued: “Additionally, power remains out in much of Malibu and therefore, to ensure the safety of our community, we will maintain on-site protocol until at least daylight. The EOC will continue to update the community.”

Campus activities in Malibu were suspended Tuesday, canceling classes and final exams as students prepare for winter break.
A shelter-in-place order for community members was issued and sent to the Tyler Campus Center and Payson Library after the university’s Emergency Operations Committee (EOC) was activated.

The third brush fire alarm at Malibu Canyon Road and Station Boundary, residents in the area were ordered evacuated, and others are under evacuation warnings.
So far there have been no injuries or deaths as a result of the fire. according to FOX Weather.

Units from the Los Angeles County Fire Department are on the ground and in the air battling the wildfire, the department said on Facebook.
The fire has scorched more than 1,822 acres and is 0% contained, according to Cal Fire. It started at 10:50 PM and the cause is under investigation.

Along with evacuations, the fire led officials to close Pacific Coast Highway between Topanga Canyon Boulevard and Corral Canyon Road. FOX 11 Los Angeles reports this.
