Manchester City midfielder Rodry’s injury has affected the Premier League champions in ways no one could have imagined.
They went on a seven game winless streak that finally ended with a win against Nottingham Forest at the Etihad Stadium.
Their poor form has seen them lose ground in the Premier League title race, with Arne Slott’s side nine points ahead of Liverpool.
It all started with their main midfielder, Rodry, injuring his ACL this season against Arsenal.
The Ballon d’Or winner’s importance to the Premier League club is even more evident now.
According to the Daily MailPep Guardiola has urged the Premier League champions to make a move for Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimaraes to replace the injured Spain midfielder.
Along with the Newcastle midfielder, Manchester City have selected Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimenti and Atalanta’s Ederson as their other options for the midfield position.
The January transfer window is just over a month away and will give Guardiola the opportunity to address the issues facing his squad and prepare his side for the second half of the season to challenge for the league title again.

It is not the first time the Sky Blues have shown an interest in the Newcastle midfielder. Even in the summer transfer window, they were linked with a move for the Brazilian, but ultimately decided to re-sign Ilkay Gundogan from Barcelona.
The need for a new midfielder at the Etihad Stadium is now clear after Man City somehow managed to produce their worst run of form in 18 years.
Manchester City could consider a swap deal for Bruno Guimaraes
The Premier League champions are reluctant to pay Guimaraes’ £100m release clause and are considering sending Mateus Nunes to Newcastle as part of a swap deal.
It all depends on Newcastle and whether they are prepared to accept offers for one of their best players.
City will have to dig deep into their pockets if they intend to sign the Brazilian international midfielder.
Other player targeted by Guardiola’s side is Sporting striker Victor Gokeres but they will have to beat Manchester United to his signature.
