Patrice Evra defended Didier Deschamps as director of France and suggested that FIFA “gave the World Cup to (Lionel) Messi” in 2022.
Messi entered the tournament in Qatar with the World Cup the only piece missing in his glittering resume and played a key role as Lionel Scaloni’s men won their first Global Crown since 1986.
Miami’s star scored twice in the final, as Argentina defeated Les Bleus, for whom Kylian Mbappe won a hat-trick in a penalty after the game that ended 3-3 after an extra time.
It was a fairy tale that ended for the player and Evra claimed that everything was not as it seemed.
In an interview with RMC Sport, the former Juventus, Manchester United and France on the left said: “Okay, we haven’t won (a big tournament) since 2018, but we all know that in 2022 they gave the World Cup.
Evra sick of Zidane Talk already
Evra also talked about what she thinks is the lack of respect for Deschamps, who announced that she would stand after the next summer’s World Cup finals in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
The speculation surrounding its replacement has already begun with Zinedine Zidane, according to reports, the top of the French Football Federation’s wishes list.
Despite addressing the criticism of a perceived intense style of play, Evra believes that Deschamps is worth more faith.
He added: “I think there is a huge lack of respect for Didier Deschamps as we are talking about another National Team manager while still in force.
“There is a World Cup to prepare. I don’t think he will disrupt the team. Players have to focus on the present, but we can’t talk about Zidane in every interview.
“We’re talking about Didier Deschamps. We’re not damaged kids? Can people stand in the semifinals or the final of each tournament? Do you prefer to win or play beautiful football?”
France is in the action of the league championship and to play the first part of their quarter against Croatia.
