Kelly, 28, is arrested in Albemarle County, Virginia, in late October after allegedly stealing a Charlottesville church van, Daily progress reported. Ground Zero Church of the Nazarene confirmed the stolen vehicle to a GoFundMe page.
“On October 27th, our green church van and trailer were stolen from outside our pastor’s home by Grace Pauline Kelly. Grace is currently in police custody,” a statement from the church’s lead pastor, Kent Hartread. “The van was damaged during the theft and after being inspected by a repair shop, the insurance determined it was a total loss.”
“The van was only valued at $3,800 and after bodywork fees and the deductible we are only left with about $2,200,” the statement continued. “We are a small church and cannot afford to buy another van in the current market.”
With a goal of $30,000, the fundraising page has currently raised more than $2,000. “We want the community to know that on a personal level we have forgiven Grace Kelly,” the statement said.
Hart reiterated his opinion of people on Monday, December 2. “Even though we suffered this loss, we really hope the community will help us,” Hart told the outlet. “I’m not sure what we’re going to get from Grace as far as replacement goes, and we’re not even really going that way. We simply forgive her and trust the Lord to take care of our needs.
Hart said Daily progress that he was at his home on the afternoon of October 27 when he noticed his van leaving the driveway. He allegedly chased the car and found a woman behind the wheel.
“I was like, ‘You stole my van, get out of my van,’ banging on the door,” he said on the way out. “And at this moment I see her very clearly. I saw her haircut and face tattoo.
Hart claimed the woman “may have been high,” adding, “She really didn’t seem like she was in her right mind.”
Hart allegedly continued to pursue the vehicle on Virginia Highway 20 in front of the Albemarle police officer Corey Legg intervened.

“Grace reported that a male suspect got out of the driver’s seat and ran into the woods,” Legg wrote in a report, according to the publication.
After reviewing the dashcam footage, Legg confirmed that Kelly was the driver and the only person in the van. According to the outlet, Legg wrote that Kelly asked to be committed to a mental institution.
“She began declaring that she had sold her soul to the devil,” Legg wrote, according to the publication. “I advised officers at the prison that she may have taken something. I was later informed that prison officers noticed something inside Ms Kelly during the scan of her body.’
Kelly was taken to the University of Virginia Medical Center, according to the outlet. “They discovered it was just gas, but when they did blood tests on Ms. Kelly, she tested positive for heroin,” Legg wrote, for Daily progress.
Kelly faces seven charges, including three counts of aggravated theft. Kelly was also charged with driving without a license, willful destruction of property, failure to use headlights and operating a vehicle with intent to commit a felony, people confirmed by the Albemarle County Sheriff’s Department.
