The New York Police Department (NYPD) assured the public it was “not a terrorist attack” after ten people were shot outside the Amazura nightclub in Jamaica, Queens on New Year’s Day – the same day a terrorist attack was committed in New Orleans.
Officers received multiple 911 calls for “multiple people” shot at a private event around 11:18 p.m. According to police, about 90 people were at the location for the event.
Police said three to four men walked up to the location and opened fire more than 30 times toward a group queuing outside the event, hitting several vehicles.
The men ran west on 91st Street toward 143rd Place, where they entered a light-colored sedan with out-of-state license plates. Police said the shooting was “not a terrorist attack.”
