When the match for a top finish was discussed at the beginning of the season, no one predicted that it would include Nottingham Forest and Manchester City.
The forest was expected to be at the other end of the table, and the city was considered to be a shoo-in given their dominance in the Premier League in recent times.
And yet the sides come to the game of tomorrow in the third and fourth places with the forest a spot in front of the four -way defense champions.
Nuno Espirito Santo has done a remarkable job on the city’s ground, though they have found it a little tougher in recent weeks having won only one of the last five top flights, 7-0 demolition of Brighton on February 1st.
And they proved their defensive durability again the last time when they were 0-0 with Arsenal.
Manchester City had a time when no one was expected.
Pep Guardiola has suffered injuries to his team for much of the campaign and their form remains wildly inconsistent. Have varied between wins and defeats in the last five, including one 5-1 hammering in Arsenal and one 4-0 victory at Newcastle.
They will have benefited from a rare middle week due to the elimination of the Champions League, which may allow some of their walking injured to arrive.

Nuno was Cagey when asked about his team in front of the game, simply saying he would “evaluate” players in advance, but they are not believed to have new concerns. It is likely to remember Chris Wood, Morgan Gibbs-White and Elliot Anderson, who had resting for the FA Cup tie with Ipswich.
Many of the big players in the city had also rested for the victory of the FA Cup last weekend at Etihad, so that Erling Haaland, Phil Foden, Omar Marmoush and Josko Gvardiol would have to be fresh.
Nathan Ake underwent surgery on a broken leg during the week after worsening against Plymouth. The Netherlands international will lose the rest of the season.
John Stones and Manuel Akanji’s colleagues are also missing until April, so new signatures Abdukodir Khusanov and Vitor Reis are likely to participate.
