Newcastle Eddie Howe’s director praised his side because he was not detached from the upcoming final of the Wembley Championship championship to get a very necessary Premier League victory in West Ham.
Captain Bruno Guimaraes scored the only goal of the game to lift the magpies up to sixth place on the table.
They are now facing Liverpool in Wembley on Sunday for Chache to lift a Dmoestic Trophy for the first time in 70 years.
Howe said: “This was one of the best wins of the season, not in terms of performance but desire and heart.
“We have shown all the big ingredients you need to be a successful team. You have to win when the game is tight and find a way to overcome the line. We supported very well after the first three minutes that were a bit scary. We deserved the victory.
“That’s why for me it was such a good victory, it would be easy for the players to distance themselves, but they were present. We will focus fully on Liverpool now. We will take into account everything.
“I felt we needed a victory to go to the final with a real push and lifting.”
The win for West Ham leaves 16th place, with boss Graham Potter unhappy with the sole goal of the game.
He said: “I thought it was a dedicated performance by us.
“The game has taken-and flowing. We are disappointed with the target, it looks like two hands on the back of our central.
“We had some moments, not enough to win it, but we were dedicated enough to get enough of the game.
“We tried to deal with the institution and give us some stability. As I said, the effort, the application and the desire to run and suffer for each other were there.
“In the back of the two wins, not built in a day. We need to move step by step. You must continue to move.”
