General Motors he adds over 132,000 heavy-duty pickup trucks in the US to a previous recall for tailgate release switches that can short out and open the doors while the trucks are in park.

The recall adds certain 2024 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra 2500 and 3500 trucks. Recall of 323,000 heavy trucks in February. They only affect trucks with manual doors and electric lock and release.

The company says in documents released Tuesday by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that water can enter the electronic door release switches, causing the doors to unlock. If this happens, the load can fall onto the road and become a hazard.

The trucks in the new recall were added after the company found 237 field reports of rear doors opening unexpectedly. Until they’re fixed, GM says owners should make sure the doors are closed and locked before driving.

Dealers will replace the outer touchpad switch assemblies with new ones that are more water resistant.

Owners will be notified by letter dated January 13.
