Mindy Kaling praises Meghan Markle’s cooking: ‘Blows me out of the water’

Meghan Markle is a hand in the kitchen, according to a friend Mindy Kaling.

The The Mindy Project The 45-year-old star revealed Meghan’s cooking skills as The Duchess of Sussex prepares for launch her new Netflix lifestyle series, Love, Meganlater this month.

The trailer for the new show dropped last week and shows Meghan, 43, rustling up a delicious meal for Kaling in her and Prince HarryMontecito, California, kitchen.

“I was just on maternity leave and Meghan texted me and said, ‘Hey, do you want to come on my show … come to Montecito and have me cook for you?'” Kaling explained her guest appearance during a red carpet interview with Deadline on Sunday, January 5, Golden Globe. “And I was like, ‘Yeah, that sounds perfect. I’d like to do that.’

The comedian said he considers himself a “good cook” but Meghan “unsurprisingly blew me out of the water”.

“The thing about her recipes and her presence is that it’s really accessible,” Kaling continued. “She has a garden from scratch, which I could never do, and chickens…they would probably all die if I tried to take care of chickens. I was like, “Oh, that’s very affordable.”

While Meghan’s husband Harry, 40, was at home when Kaling visited, she didn’t get to try his cooking.

“I heard he’s actually a pretty good cook,” she said. “He finds his way around the kitchen.”

Meghan’s new lifestyle series, set to premiere on Wednesday, January 15, “reimagines the genre of lifestyle programming” with Meghan at the helm, “mixing how-tos and candid conversation with friends,” according to Netflix.

“I’ve always loved taking something pretty ordinary and elevating it,” Megan says in a trailer posted on Thursday, January 2nd. “I surprise people with moments that let them know I’ve been thinking about them.”

Produced by Meghan herself, the former actress will offer ‘tips and tricks’ about life in the upcoming eight-episode series, which will feature guest appearances from Kaling, Harry and Meghan’s ex-wife Suits A costar and a friend Abigail Spencer.

“Megan shares personal tips and tricks, embracing playfulness over perfection and highlighting how easy it can be to create beauty, even in the unexpected,” reads the show’s official logline. “She and her guests roll up their sleeves in the kitchen, garden and beyond, and invite you to do the same.”

Love, Megan is the second series to be released under Meghan and Harry’s leadership general deal with Netflix. (to Harry Polo dropped last month.)

Ahead of the show’s official announcement, a source said Us Weekly in August 2024 that the series is set to “be a look at (Meghan) and the joy of life”. The insider noted that she will teach the viewers “little things she learned to be a modern housewife.”
