A new lawsuit in New York alleges Mariano Rivera and his wife, Clara, for ignoring the sexual abuse of a minor that occurred both at home and in church.
The New York Yankees legend is the pastor of Refuge of Hope Church in New Rochelle, about 15 miles from where he played.
However, “Jane Doe” says she was sexually assaulted by an older girl known as “MG” during a summer internship in 2018. MG was a minor at the time of the alleged incidents.

The internship took place at the Ignite Life Center in Gainesville, Florida, which was affiliated with Rivera’s church.
The lawsuit states that the victim’s mother informed Clara of the abuse and that Clara promised to investigate the matter. But they would have kept it hidden.
“Rather than take sufficient action to put an end to Jane Doe’s sexual abuse, the Riveras individually isolated and intimidated Jane Doe into keeping quiet about her abuse at the hands of MG to prevent problems from arising. for Refuge of Hope and the Ignite Life Summer Internship,” the lawsuit states. reads.
The lawsuit also alleges that MG abused the victim during a barbecue at the Rivera residence that summer.

“The Riveras knew or should have known at all times that MG posed a risk to sexually assault children… before and during the barbecue,” the complaint reads.
“To prevent the possible scandal of child sexual abuse in their programs and otherwise protect (themselves) above all else, the Riveras (Doe’s mother) assured that (Doe) was safe and in no danger at the Ignite Life Center , despite actual or constructive knowledge that Doe remained vulnerable to further acts of sexual abuse by MG.”
A few months later, in January 2019, Rivera became the first and still only player to be unanimously elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame. Later that year, President Donald TrumpDuring his first presidency, he awarded him the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Widely known as the greatest closer in baseball history, Rivera is the sport’s all-time leader in saves with 652. His ERA of 2.21 is also the lowest among all pitchers with at least 500 innings since the era of the live ball started in 1920.
