Mariah Carey responds to claims her new Spotify video with bad lighting is AI

Mariah Carey sets the record straight in a video she recorded in honor of Spotify is packed.

“Bad lighting and red lips do you all think this is AI??” Carey, 55, wrote through X on Thursday, December 5. “There’s a reason I’m not a fan of any of these things! About to celebrate #Christmastime with my Bostonian #lambily!”

One fan was quick to defend the Grammy winner from any speculation surrounding the clip.

“I got your message on @Spotify and knew it was you and loved the unusual red lipstick but knew it was for a holiday occasion,” the user wrote via X. “I love and appreciate you and all you do for lambic!”

Every December, Spotify gives listeners a chance to look back at an artist and track the connections they’ve made over the year through their custom Wrapped list.

As part of tradition, Carey chose to record a video for her most loyal listeners.

“Hey, it’s Mariah. Thank you so much for listening to my music on Spotify,” she said the video. “Your support over the years is the greatest gift I could ask for. This year we celebrate the 30th anniversary of my album Merry Christmas. I hope you enjoy listening to it and I can’t wait to share new music with you soon. Happy holidays!

Carey’s 1994 album Merry Christmas features mostly covers of holiday classics including “Silent Night” and “Joy to the World.” However, the work also features original songs, including the hit single “All I Want for Christmas Is You.”

The music is so beloved by fans that Carey is currently touring the country as part of a Christmas time tour.

In a Christmas surprise, the “Obsessed” singer was previously asked what her favorite holiday song was. As it turns out, it’s not hers.
