Manchester United will inform supporters of a proposed stadium work on Tuesday, after co -owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe reiterated his desire for a new Old Trafford.
United is considering whether to rebuild their existing space or build a new stage in the same area in conjunction with the Task Force Old Trafford Regeneration.
Lord Sebastian Coe has been chairing the Task Force and is expected to speak with Ratcliffe in an update of the Stadium’s work in London on Tuesday.
Ratcliffe told Gary Neville about Podcast Voalap: “If you get the view that it is the largest football club in the world, then if it is going to build a new stage, it should be a new stage that fits the world’s largest club.
“And also a stage that fits the world’s biggest league because the Premier League is the biggest league in the world.
“And right now, if you look at the Premier League, we have some big stadiums, but we don’t have Bernabeu, we? And we don’t have the new Nou camp. We don’t have it in the Premier League, though it’s the biggest championship in the world.
“And also, if you look at northern England, Northern England has won 10 Champions League finals and London has won two, so there are several reasons to have the most virtual football stadium in the world in northern England in the world’s largest club.”
Ratcliffe said United “does not need government funding” for a new stage, but stressed that it should be part of a government project to regenerate the area around Old Trafford.
