Manchester United Stadium plans gave a significant boost

Manchester United’s plans for a new stage dug a step closer last night after receiving the green light from the Trafford Council.

United is looking either to build a new, 100,000 seats to replace Old Trafford, or to renew today’s ground and increase the capacity to 87,000.

The club will decide which course to take at the end of the season, but both would require the approval of the Local Council, given the impact it would have on the local economy and infrastructure.

This was granted through verbal vote at a meeting of the Town Hall last night.

Coun Liz Patel, an executive member of the Economy and Renaissance at the Trafford Council, said: “I am glad that these plans have been approved by the Council’s executive. As the report says, this is one of the most important opportunities for urban renewal in Trafford and the results will be great for the area and the surrounding area.

“This is an extremely exciting project and we work with our partners and private developers. We will try to create thousands of new homes, new neighborhoods and a world -class environment for Manchester United.

“Together with Manchester United, the Greater Manchester Combined Authority and the Salford Municipal Council, we will ensure that these plans will benefit all, including residents of the area, businesses and football fans.”

Plans receive government support

It is estimated that a new stage could add £ 7.3 billion to the economy and create 90,000 jobs.

The plans have already been supported by the labor government that can see economic and social benefits from such an extensive Renaissance plan.

United would finance the development of the stadium, but public money is likely to be used to rebuild the surrounding area.
