Manchester City crush Salford as Leeds narrowly avert cup upset

Manchester City are into the Fourth Round of the FA Cup after an 8-0 win over League Two side Salford City at the Etihad.

Salford-born James McAtee scored a first senior hat-trick as City avoided a massive cup upset with a ruthless display that will be a welcome confidence boost for Pep Guardiola and his players.

The excellent Jeremy Docu scored a brace, while Jack Grealish, Nico O’Reilly and debutant Divine Mbama completed the rout to continue the Premier League champions’ good start to 2025.

Elsewhere, Championship leaders Leeds edged past League Two strugglers Harrogate Town at Elland Road.

The game was goalless at half-time, but Largi Ramadani found the net just before the hour mark to secure passage to the next round for Daniel Farke’s side.

The All-League clash between Coventry and Sheffield Wednesday went to penalties after the two sides could not be separated in 120 minutes.

Liam Keating gave Frank Lampard’s side the advantage on 26 minutes and the lead held until second-half stoppage time.

However, Wednesday’s Anthony Musaba equalized with 93 minutes on the clock to send the game into extra time.

Neither team could find a winner in the extra half hour and so the tie had to be decided on penalties, which Coventry won 4-3.
