Lyon defines former boss AC Milan Fonsseca

Lyon has made the former AC Milan Paulo Fonseca director of their new coach just a month after arriving in San Siro.

Fonseca, 51, has signed a two -and -a -and -a -and -a -half -year contract with Club Ligue 1 and replaces Pierre Sage.

Lyon shook Sage earlier this week, but won it in the last 16 of the Europa League after a 1-1 draw with Ludogorets in their team’s final match on Thursday.

The club is sixth on the French top flight after managing only one win in the last five league games and was hit by the French Cup after a defeat by the French fifth Bourgoin-Jallieu team.

“Olympique Lyonnais is very happy to announce the appointment of Paulo Fonseca as head of the professional team until June 30, 2027,” Lyon said in a statement.

“This option, unanimously taken by John Textor and all the management of sport, is part of the desire to give Olympia Lyonnais a strong ambition, both on the national and European scene.”

Fonseca was fired from Milan after just six months at work. He previously managed Lille in League 1, leaving them in fourth place last season.

He won the Portuguese Super Cup with Porto in 2013, the Portuguese Cup with Braga in 2015-16, as well as the Ukrainian Premier League with Shakhtar three times in a row.

His first match responsible for Lyon will be their trip to Marseille on Sunday.
