Battle also described an incident in February 2019, when Elmont Cheerleaders reportedly hurled racial injuries to spectators who support Bellmore-Merrick. She also claims that one of the cheerleaders wore an “Afro-Wig to mock the black players.”
Battle added more incidents in 2022 and 2023 that were reportedly charged racially. However, they have never been reported to the necessary sports forces in the districts.
In response, Section VIII and the districts held workshops for students in the teams involved, while also “reading a courtesy declaration before games,” De Post reports.
