During the Monday, January 20 episode of her podcast, “are you charlotte” Davis, 59, revealed she once loaned $5,000 to an “unemployed” actor before he hurriedly ghosted her.
Davis, who played Charlotte York on the hit HBO series Sex and the city before reprising his role for the 2021 reboot, the podcast guest said Sarah Winter — which appeared in SATC pilot — that the man’s response to her generous gesture shocked her.
She detailed how the man was an “out-of-work actor” she had been seeing before he started SATCwhich is now “very successful”. Davis had lent him “the entire $5,000” after noticing notes around his home threatening to cut off his electricity. She had also learned that he had “crashed his motorcycle” so he could not attend the auditions.
“He was very talented, but at the time I had money because I was working,” Davis explained. “It changed the dynamic in a terrible way … but I probably should have known better. So I gave him that money and then, you know, he stopped calling. So I’m like “What the hell?”
Davis added that she confronted the man — which didn’t exactly help her situation.
“I remember going to his apartment and knocking on the door,” Davis said on the podcast. “And his dog was there and I loved his dog and I could hear his dog. But I was like, ‘Is he in there and pretending he’s not in there?’
Although Davis was not greeted at the door, she later received a phone call from the man who asked her if she was the person knocking on his door.
“I was like, ‘Well, yeah,'” Davis said. “I felt so embarrassed, like I was acting like a mess. I’d just love some recognition or whatever, which is kind of a fantasy.”
While he didn’t reveal the man’s identity, Davis offered some details about what he might be up to these days. “He lives in the country with a couple of kids, so I don’t think I want to show up there,” she joked.
Reflecting on the ordeal afterwards, Davies called her decision a “terrible mistake” before urging her listeners to avoid repeating her actions. “Don’t do it,” Davis said. “It doesn’t end well.”
Davies’ Charlotte is known for her own fair share of eventful dating scenarios over six seasons of SATCbefore developing into two seasons of AJLT. (The third season of AJLT is expected to premiere later this year after being renewed in August 2023, and Charlotte remains married to Harry Goldenblatt, played by Evan Handler.)
In real life, Davis is single and the mother of two adopted children: daughter Gemma Rose, whom she adopted in 2011, and son Wilson, whom she adopted in 2018.
