Keyshawn Davis was impressed with what he saw from David Morrell in his performance against David Benavidez on February 1 at the PBC at Prime Video PPV earlier this month.
He felt that the lightweight heavy heavy heavy Morrell (11-1, 9 kos) could have made it more interesting if he had more experience and made some strategic changes to his game. Keyshawn says Morrell should not have been so often supported against the ropes and it would be better to rotate.

He also felt that he should have gone to the attack on Benavidez (30-0, 24 kos) that begins on Thursday or sixth instead of waiting until the last two rounds. Waiting for Morrell so much in a weak situation where a knockout was needed and had the wrong opponent to do that.
Benavidez has a head like a water buffalo and can take massive shots that would take a normal person. Obviously, if Benavidez continues to eat the kind of shots he took against Morrell, he is going to leave the sport with a few marbles that run on his head. Man has no defense at all and is seeking problems with Artur Beterbiev. When Artur finishes with Benavidez, he won’t stay enough to annoy Morrell.
“It was a loss for Morrell in his file. It wasn’t really any loss. I watched it. I watch David Morrell’s next match and that was the first match I ever saw David Morrell,” Keyhawn Davis said Combat TV About Morrell’s match against David Benavidez on February 1st.
“He sold himself. David Morrell looked great. I felt if he had more experience, he would probably be a better race. David Benavidez has all the experience in the world and I am a fan of David. Very inexperienced and many of them certainly showed.

Morrell should have gone after Benavidez earlier in the race, because when he stopped showing him respect, he hurt him with his biggest punches. In the end he was better than Benavidez. It was like watching a slight blow to the volume hit by a stronger type.

It doesn’t look like Canelo Alvarez will ever fight Benavidez, unless Turki al-sheikh offers irrational money, but I don’t think it will happen. There are other matches that Canelo can fight and make money. You don’t need the big dough that Turki would offer him to fight Benavidez.
