Kate, 42, hosted the festive concert on Friday, December 6, at Westminster Abbey, which featured a number of musical acts. At one point, a ballet troupe performed in front of the audience, which included Kate, husband Prince William and their three children. William, 42, and Kate share Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6.
“Louis knew about the dancers and talked about them at tea,” Kate recalled to guests in footage shared by Sky News. “He said, ‘What’s the secret?’ I said, ‘Louis, can you keep a secret?’ Because I want it to be a surprise for Charlotte, who loves her ballet (classes).”
According to Kate, her 6-year-old promised to “not say anything” to her big sister before the concert.
“And he keeps the secret,” she marveled at the members of the dance company. “That’s what, for maybe two weeks? For a six year old! Then this morning he said: “Mom please can I tell her? I’m shitting.”

Kate and Charlotte twins in red coat dresses for the occasion, while William and the boys opted for navy blue suits with brown ties.
Kate has been running a ‘Together at Christmas’ concert for several years, but this iteration has come after a challenging time. The Princess of Wales was diagnosed with an undisclosed form of cancer earlier this year, completing a round of chemotherapy in September.
“I didn’t know this year was going to be the year I just had,” Kate noted on Friday. “The unplanned … but I think a lot of people this year have had such challenging times, many of whom are here today.”
To mark the occasion, so did Kate leave special letters for guests.
“Christmas is one of my favorite times of the year,” Kate wrote in her note. “It is a time for celebration and joy, but it also gives us an opportunity to slow down and reflect on the deeper things that connect us all. When we stop and step away from the pressures of everyday life, we find the space to live our lives with an open heart, with love, kindness and forgiveness – so much of what the Christmas spirit is.”
She concluded: “Love is the light that can shine brightly even in the darkest of times. We all have something to offer each other. Kind words or a receptive ear, an arm around a weary shoulder or the silent presence of someone.”
