Kansas wife convicted of killing army husband in Fort Riley


A woman from Kansas was convicted by a federal jury for shooting and killing her Soldier Husband in their house in Fort Riley in February 2024.

On Friday, officials from the American lawyers in Kansas announced that 31-year-old Margaret E. Shafe was found guilty of murder in the second degree for shooting and killing her husband, Army SPC. Greg Shafe, who was assigned a soldier to Fort Riley, one Military installation in Kansas.

According to Shafe’s death advertisement, he collapsed to one shot wound at the head He lasted on February 19, 2024, while he is on the base. He was declared dead the next day. Shafe would be used with his new squadron to Poland when his wife had to be admitted to the hospital because of complications with her pregnancy.

“Greg stayed on Margaret’s side while she was admitted to the hospital in Kansas City for the rest of her pregnancy and the stay of Sydona in Nicu,” is the death notice. “Greg loved his family a lot and Sydona was Greg’s pride and joy. She was really a dad’s girl.”

Shafe lived at Het Bonk with Margaret, his 1-year-old daughter and his stepdaughter, says the death advertisement.

A GoFundMe page was also made by a family friend, Abby Shelton, to support the daughters of his Shafe.

“This is the worst type of tragedy. Greg was a beacon of light in such a dark world. We are all deeply sad and endlessly pray for the family and loved ones of Greg,” is the GoFundMe post.

According to Shelton, one of Grege’s brothers and sisters will adopt his younger child, while his 9-year-old stepdaughter will live with her biological father.

Margaret Shafe is confronted with a maximum fine of Living in prison.

It was not immediately known what led to the shooting or the motive.

Officials added that the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the American Department of Army Criminal Investigation Division and the Fort Riley directorate of emergency services investigated the case.
