Josh Allen was bound to his future Hailee Steinfeld the moment he dropped to one knee and proposed.
“I was very nervous. I think I was most nervous about you finding out about the proposal,” Allen, 28, revealed in the Friday, Dec. 6 issue of Steinfeld’s Beau Society newsletter. “It was hard keeping secrets from you and other people in your life keeping secrets from you. Then a few times throughout the day a song would come on and I would cry thinking how special our day was going to be.’
The Buffalo Bills quarterback proposed to Steinfeld, 27, during his NFL team’s bye week on Nov. 22. He popped the question at sunset while standing under a rose-covered arch overlooking a body of water.
“I said, ‘I couldn’t wait any longer.’ I said, ‘I can’t wait to start a family with you,'” Allen recalled. “I said your full name and asked you very nicely. I said please.

Steinfeld, of course, said yes, and they sealed the moment with a kiss — a moment that made the NFL athlete feel “relieved,” especially since no one missed the surprise.
“You were extremely surprised, you said yes, and that was all that mattered to me. And the sun was out,” Allen burst out. “It feels amazing to be engaged to someone so special, loving, caring, wonderful, funny and happy.”
Allen worried that Steinfeld had found out his proposal plans a few hours in advance.
“We woke up and were getting ready for brunch and you jumped on the bed and said, ‘Can we get married already?!?’ What are you waiting for??!'” he recalled. “I said, ‘Just give me a little more time.'” You didn’t know I was going to propose.

Allen and Steinfeld have been together since 2023. Her Friday newsletter — 17, which matches her current fiance’s Bills jersey number — was her first since getting engaged.
“I’m engaged!! All the happy tears have barely dried,” Steinfeld wrote in the newsletter’s introduction. “Every time we tell the story, look at pictures, or even say ‘We’re engaged’ or ‘We’re getting married,’ I start to cry.”
She added: “Although I can’t wait to tell you more about the day and the things we have planned, I’m not ready yet. I have to hold this close a little longer.
According to Steinfeld, Allen’s proposal was “the most magical day of (her) life.”
Elsewhere in her Fiancé Q&A, Steinfeld asked Allen to come up with an acronym for her first name. He chose “Hot, Angelic, Irresistible, Loving, Energetic and Eternal Lover.”
