As president of the Senate, Harris, who lost to newly elected President Donald Trump in the November election, joined two other vice presidents in recent history who had to overcome their own presidential election defeat.

Liberal late-night hosts, including Stewart, winced at the awkward situation as they cracked jokes during their Monday night shows.

“The ultimate outrage of this January 6 is, of course, that Donald Trump’s opponent Kamala Harris, because she was the vice president, serves as master of ceremonies,” Stewart responded on “The Daily Show,” referring to the ceremony that took place on the four-year anniversary anniversary of the Capitol riot.
