Jennifer Lopez questioned whether she was “enough” for children Emme and Max

Jennifer Lopez loves being a mother to 16-year-old twins Emme and Max, but sometimes wonders if she’s “enough” for them.

“It says a lot about someone’s character, when people are good and loving and supportive of each other, what they can accomplish,” said Lopez, 55 Entertainment Weekly during an interview published on Monday, December 2. “I’ve been a single mom at times in my life and (asked) ‘Am I good enough for them?'” And the truth is, all you need is a really good parent to love you.

c UnstoppableLopez plays the role of Judy Roblesreal-life wife and mother of a former NCAA wrestling champion Anthony Robles (Jarrell Jerome), who raised her children while dealing with both financial insecurity and an abusive relationship. The film, Lopez said, helped her overcome many of her parenting insecurities.

“You hear it in Anthony’s voice and see what he’s been able to achieve,” she explained. “That’s what the movie gave me: You are enough.”

Lopez shares Eme and Max with her ex-husband Mark Anthony. She and Anthony, 56, divorced in 2014. after 10 years of marriage. She went on to marry Ben Affleck in July 2022 and filed for divorce from the 52-year-old actor in August 2024.

“There was a lot about her that I understood,” Lopez said EW of Judy and why the character chose to stay with her toxic husband, Rich (Bobby Cannavale). “There were different sides to him that the kids didn’t see that only Judy saw. With these types of people, there’s a part of them that tricks you into thinking that they care about you and that they really love you – when it’s really about their harm that they’re doing to you.

Lopez added, “The two of them had a lot going on that was dysfunctional and unhealthy, but (Judy) loved (Rich) and wanted him to be there. He was the father of four of her children. As angry and upset as he was, she could welcome him back in a second, like she did in the movie, which was heartbreaking.”

Last month, Lopez attended the Unstoppable screening in London and opened up about navigating “challenging relationships” as a mother amid her ongoing divorce from Affleck, who served as a producer on the film.

“I think a lot of women have been through this, and (Judy) and I talked a lot,” Lopez said at the time, noting that she wanted Judy to “really feel safe with me (while) sharing details” about her life.

“When you talk to Judy’s kids, including Anthony, they’re like, ‘My mom is so positive, she’s so great,'” Lopez continued. “There was a whole different story there that she was living that you hide from your kids, you protect your kids from.”

Lopez said she didn’t want to “just play the mother the kids knew, but play the woman who raised those kids and how she found her own strength.” She also noted that she didn’t want “anyone to see me in (the role). I wanted them to see Judy in it.

Unstoppable was produced as part of Affleck’s production company Artists Equity, which he co-founded with his best friend Matt Damon. Affleck praised the introduction of his estranged wife earlier this month during an interview with Entertainment tonightsaying, “Jennifer is spectacular.”

Unstoppable opens in theaters Friday, December 6.
