Jean Smart urges TV networks not to air Hollywood award shows, but to donate the money to firefighting


Jean Slim called on television networks preparing to host live awards shows not to televise the celebrations and instead donate money to help the Los Angeles-area community amid deadly wildfires.

Smart, who took home a prize at the Golden Globes days before the fires broke out, she made her plea on Instagram.

“ATTENTION! With all due respect, during the holiday season in Hollywood, I hope that all networks airing the upcoming awards will seriously consider NOT televising them and donating the revenue they would have collected to the victims of the fires and the firefighters,” the spokesperson said. 73 years old actress shared is Jan. 8.

Hollywood has responded to the multiple wildfires are raging around Los Angeles County by postponing a handful of events, including awards ceremonies. The Critics Choice Awards, which take place on January 12, have been postponed until January 26.

“This unfolding tragedy has already had a profound impact on our community,” CCA CEO Joey Berlin said in a statement shared with Fox News Digital. “All our thoughts and prayers are with those battling the devastating fires and with all those affected.”

“The rescheduled event will remain at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California, and will be broadcast live on E! and around the world. It will also be available on Peacock the following day.”

The award show announcements for both the Academy Awards and the SAG Awards have also been postponed.

The Academy Awards nominations will now be announced on January 19th instead of January 17th.

The postponement comes as production has halted on several TV shows, including “The Price is Right,” hosted by Drew Carey, and “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” and “After midnight.” Universal Studios also canceled filming on numerous series, including “Hacks,” “Ted Lasso” and “Suits LA.”

Movie premieres were also affected by the raging Palisades Fire, which has now burned more than 17,000 acres. Premieres for Jennifer Lopez’s “Unstoppable” and Blumhouse’s “Wolf Man” were canceled Tuesday night.

Aftermath of the California wildfires

At least five people were killed and thousands of structures were severely burned wildfires raged in Los Angeles area, officials said. Fast-moving flames ripped through homes and businesses as residents fled smoke-filled canyons and picturesque neighborhoods where many celebrities live.

Many of the towering fires that started Tuesday were fueled by powerful flames Santa Ana windwith wind gusts exceeding 70 mph (112 km per hour) in some places. Winds eased Thursday, but the National Weather Service warned that even the reduced gusts could still spread the fire quickly.

More than 1,900 structures have been destroyed, and this number is expected to increase. More than 130,000 people are also under evacuation orders in the metropolitan area, from the Pacific coast inland to Pasadena, a number that continues to change as new fires break out.
